Welcome to Class 6!
Our class consists of children in Year 3 and Year 4.
Parents/carers will be able to follow their children's progress throughout the school year. Please follow our school Twitter feed which shows the brilliant work/activities we will be doing. The Twitter feed contains images and videos of work created by the students and teacher updates.
Please find below a copy of the newsletter for Class 6. Inside you will find lots of information about various aspects of Year 3/4, such as swimming, homework and reading days.

Year 4 New Multiplication Tables Check
All primary school-aged children are expected to know their times tables up to 12 x 12 by heart. In fact, they are expected to have mastered their times tables by the end of Year 4.
Year 4 Time Table Tests
Until now, there had been no formal measure to judge whether children in England had learnt their times tables or not β with a formal judgement only somewhat made from a childβs Year 6 Maths SATs performance. So, the idea is for the Multiplication Tables Check to be taken towards the end of Year 4 to make sure children are meeting the benchmark of memorising their times tables up to 12 x 12 before moving up to Upper Key Stage 2 (Year 5 and Year 6). From the 2021/22 academic year onwards, all state-funded maintained schools and academies (including free schools) in England are required to administer an online multiplication tables check (MTC) to Year 4 pupils.
Why test in Year 4?
The national curriculum specifies that pupils should be taught to recall the multiplication tables up to and including 12 Γ 12 by the end of Year 4. The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will help schools to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided. Schools will have a 3-week window to administer the MTC. Teachers will have the flexibility to administer the check to individual pupils, small groups or a whole class at the same time.
Sacramental Programme
Our Year 3 children onwards, have the opportunity to make their First Holy Communion, and to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation, in the Summer Term. If they are baptised Catholic, we would be delighted to welcome them onto the Sacramental Programme so that we can support them on their spiritual journey.
The first time your child receives Jesus in the Eucharist is an event of great joy for your family and the whole Catholic Community here at St Herbertβs. Our Sacramental Programme will help you to work with the designated catechists/faith friends in preparing your child.
The key dates of the Sacramental Journey are:
Presentation Mass: Sunday 17th November 2024 - 11am
Reconciliation Service: Saturday 10th May 2025 - 10am
Holy Communion: Saturday 21st June 2025 - 10am
